The Gorilla is a multiple emulator frontend, which is designed to help playing games originally designed for old game consoles and arcade machines. This includes, but isn’t limited to

and other retro favourites. The Internet is full of extras that can be plugged into the frontend, such as gameplay movies, box art, PDF manuals and game reviews. The Gorilla’s goals are to be easy to set up, simple and efficient, with advanced features such as GoodMerge support, and usable with no keyboard and mouse – just a game controller.
Motivation
Thanks to BitTorrent, I’ve had my computer fill up with full ROM sets and various extras for many consoles. I’ve started running out of space, and keeping the games organized and easy to play has become quite a chore. I decided to build a tiny computer (fitted inside of a NES case), that would hold all my games and extras. The NES PC is connected to my television set, and doesn’t require the use of a keyboard or mouse at any time. Everything is controlled with the game controllers.
Why the Gorilla
Now, there are many other emulator frontends around, but none of them has suited my needs exactly. QuickPlay was nice, but it had a cluttered UI and was not usable with just a gamepad and a low-resolution TV screen. GameEx corrected these issues, but it has a nag screen and many features, such as GoodMerge support, are missing unless you decide to “donate”. On the other hand, it had a lot of features I really couldn’t care less about: radio, news, karaoke… So I decided to write my own frontend – a free one.
